For the first Q&A in our new Fitness School segment, I would like you to give me the correct name for the primary targeted muscle and
all the little helpers and stabilizer muscles, which are directly and indirectly involved in any given fitness exercise.
Make up your mind, and once you have made your pick click the "And the Correct Answer is" label down below to reveal the right option.
1.
Agonist, synergist & Antagonist.
2.
Atrophy & Hyperplasia
3.
Hypertrophy & Hypotrophy
The Agonist is the primary targeted muscle working the hardest when you perform any given exercise in a proper way. But the antagonist muscle(s) are also activated as they are the physical counterbalance inside of us that keep an equal amount of force exerted in the opposite direction of what your main muscles are trying to achieve. On top of that, there are the synergists, the surrounding muscles working directly with the agonist(s) to generate force and muscular stability for whatever exhausting movement you are requiring of your body. And this three-legged system of muscles working together is a wonderful bonus for health and fitness that helps you keep a balanced and healthy, fit body all through life.
It is also a fundamental reason why I do not see much point in healthy fit people spending a lot of time and energy on super isolated exercises. Use as many muscles as you can with every single movement, just do it safely and sound while keeping it challenging enough, because doing so will give you a tremendously pain-free and perpetually progressive improvement in body, mind, and health. And as often as you need it, supplement the bigger and more demanding exercises with the much easier and kinder exercises, such as face pull, to improve, fortify and upgrade the smaller muscles in your body instead of those super isolating exercises, they are a much better spice to your main dish.
Study up and keep on grinding.
