We all know that physical activity and healthy food is just that, life and body improving yum for muscles and mind alike.
Some might claim they hate it, and others truly love keeping fit and healthy, enriching their daily life in endless supply.
And you know it greatly reduces the risk of getting a long range of cancer forms, it helps arthritis patients, lower back pain, keeps you lean and hearty healthy.
It fights off bad sleep and osteoporosis. Slow the roll of biological aging and on and on, and all this is proven over and over by science.
And so, my simple question this time around is as follows:
Do you also know if healthy fit women in their 50s have been shown to greatly reduce the risk of getting dementia compared to less fit women?.

Several studies have indeed showcased a substantial reduction in the risk of developing various forms of dementia when you keep healthy fit. And the better your fitness level, the lower the risk for dementia.
In fact, I think I just read one such study that showcased as much as a 90% reduction for the fittest women.

There is absolutely no way that running and or lifting weights, swimming or mountain climbing can reduce the risk of getting dementia, well perhaps a superficial and meaningless risk reduction of a couple of % but that´s it.
Not only have we published plenty of articles here on 'a norse view' since 2013 that showcase plenty of scientific studies which in turn makes the correlation between a healthy body and mind perfectly clear.
But some of those studies highlight how Alzheimer's patients can recover and reduce the severeness of their illness even at age 85 just by lifting weights and improving their skeletal muscle strength and lean muscle mass. And other studies showcase the reduced risk of developing several forms of cognitive decline when you keep healthy fit on a daily basis with various forms of cardiovascular training and weight lifting.
All while other studies reveal a clear-cut connection between increased memory capacity, creativity and focus and a healthy fit lifestyle. While the opposite also holds true, the more sedentary and out of shape we become, the worse our health in body & mind.
And finally, just recently one more study showed up, detailing how fit women in their 50´s managed to reduce their risk of developing dementia over the course or 40+ years with as much as 90% compared to less fit women.
Add to that a string of studies from last few years which detail physical improvements to the brain matter mass, its thickness and volume when you run and lift weights and keep physically active and well, there´s no reason not to send your mom and pops to the gym right away no matter their age and fragility.
More importantly, never let anyone get away with telling their elderly family members to sit down and stop challenging their own body and health.
Fitness is health, for body and mind, and old age and fragility will never ever change the importance of that simple reality.
