High Energy Food
vs Cancer and increased body mass.
In a study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, researchers investigated the relationship between dietary food choices which contain a high-energy density ( DED ) and the cancer risk and body mass increase in women aged 50 years +.
Bullet point style.
1. Being obese is always detrimental for that individuals own short and long term health compared to keeping a more fit and toned life.
2. Eating unhealthy food is always detrimental for that person's health no matter body weight and constitution.
3. Being fit and cut or normal weight does not eliminate the bad health effects of eating crappy food.
4. Higher energy dense food increased cancer risk with 10+% even in toned and petite women.
5. Being fit & eating healthy food greatly reduces cancer risk.

Ergo, the conclusion we can draw from this study is the following:
Eat healthy food, and not too much of it every day for the rest of your life.
Do that in combination with keeping fit & active on a daily basis in order to further minimize the chances of getting a wide range of cancer.
However, no matter your body composition and weight, and no matter your fitness activity always strive to eat healthy food and not too much of it,
because the makeup and nutritional value and amount of the food itself also affect your health and cancer risk.
A zero surprise conclusion in this study in other words. But still, it is always good with a reminder :).
Energy dense food is a term based on high-calorie content and low nutritional value. And you can think of it as a clinical measure of the ratio of energy intake of the food you are eating compared to the weight of that food in grams.
And 92,295 women aged 50 to 79 participated in this study.
Outside of increasing cancer risk associated with all obesity related cancer forms, dietary energy density ( DED ) food, have also been found to increase body fat mass and waist size in people of both genders and all ages.
Another obvious and important thing to take with you from this study is the confirmation that all of a sudden increasing your body weight and waist size and body fat %
by increasing your low-quality calorie consumption was seemingly hurting fit and normal weight people even more than already out of shape people in this study.
And while I would argue that there is nothing new about that, nor surprising at all. This is one more clear reason why no one, no matter fitness level should ever bulk up like crazy by over eating on calories and low-quality food all of a sudden.
It will do health and fitness levels zero good.
In my opinion, the reason why the normal weight girls in this study witnessed their cancer risk increase more than the already out of shape women is that
people that are already out of shape and already eating in a bad way will obviously increase their chance of cancer and other obesity related
issues with a lower margin if they start eating even more compared to people who used to eat and train in a healthy way, because
the individual base level is obviously way different.
This is, in other words, the same thing as how out of shape people that change things around, by starting to get more serious about food intake and quality while they start putting in the effort behind a serious work out routine will see incredible health and body improvements, from lean muscle mass gains to increased strength, health improvements in general and cardiovascular performance and health improvements.
Year by year those changes relative to their individual baseline will be of a much higher degree than a person that is already fit and healthy since many years will be able to achieve.
So while it did not provide much new knowledge, it is one more study clearly showcasing the benefits of a maintaining a healthy and fit lifestyle all year round, for the rest of your life.
