Walking through the gates of autumn.

We see a brand new dawn.

Life itself is this majestic mirror world of brilliance and incompetence. Eternally merging and reflected, individually disengaged yet perfectly synchronized and attached to each other and everything else.

Like the leaf that finds itself stranded on the wayward peaks of a stormy ocean. They are each others counterpart, yet entirely different. Individual objects, entwined and interconnected. Disengaged and perfectly unique.

Walking through the gates of autumn.

And today, there´s officially a full-blown Autumn song playing out there in nature. Gorgeous and sunny, on a Sunday =). Wind free, except for the tiniest of breeze that you can almost not see or feel as it slowly makes it way through the crown of leaves that towers above.

But it is, none the less, Autumn.
The colors of the trees reveal it. The pale blue September moon that hangs high up in the middle of the day is another telltale.

Planet Earth - studies & life in the Anthropocene.

A new way of life is needed.

But what is it exactly? And why is something that sounds so cute something truly terrible that we need to take seriously as a global whole.
To most people, it is more than likely just another ridiculous phrase keyboard warriors throw around once a year while they too waste this world to the point of no return.
But this ever-moving yearly event day is anything but deadly essential.

Every year this day signals the point in that year where we have used up all the naturally replenishing resources of this planet.
And beyond this point, the planet is losing its inventory for the next year(s) ahead and it's capacity to restock.

Which if we are talking about corporations and business leaders is something that would cause pretty much every corporate leader out there to die from a heart attack if it persistently happened to their business. But when its Earth, people just shrug their mindless shoulders and look the other way as if the greenhouse we are subsisting in isn't the singular thing that feeds and house us all.

Fast forward just a little bit and I could start to see the movement in the thin youngling trees and the tall flowers. Something was out there, touching here and there making the wild plants and florals sway as it drew nearer me.

    The error of your way.

Could be spelled 'the carnivore diet'..

A growing number of people in the world adopt healthy, fit living by going increasingly more vegetarian for a long range of personal reasons and or due to scientific reasons. Some of those reasons often include the substantial increase in cancer and diabetes risk that eating red meat and highly processed foods causes, or the impossible mathematics behind an entire world eating ever higher amounts of meat, or the incredible amount of pollution that animal food production causes.

And facts are, that all those reasons are equally good, sound and true, so it does not even matter why you do it. It is a good and healthy choice to eat less red meat, and by doing so you will contribute towards a healthier you, and a healthier world.

    The Lost World.

A long and well established connective tissue in the way I talk and write, and think about health & fitness is that we are all connected through this global ecosystem we all share.
Which is why I have over the years pointed out that living in a sustainable way is ultimately all about health. Individual health & planetary health. People that are opting to eat shit just isn't healthy.
Neither from a planetary or individual perspective.

Just as how healthy fit people that´s living unsustainable, just isn't healthy living people either.

Views we catch in the rear view mirror as we leave #worldmeatfreeweek behind us.

    The Lost World.

Good and healthy vegetarian food is able to provide health & fitness improving nutrition for far more people, despite polluting much less and using up a lot less landmass vied towards animal farming.
And you can quote me on that because that simple statement is 100% based on science & clear-cut facts instead of peoples personal opinions and conjecture.

In fact, food production from animal farming is already using up 83% of our global agricultural land. Yet, it is only managing to deliver about 18% of the calories we consume. And does that situation not sound completely unsustainable and fool-hearted to maintain?.

    Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Question number 34 in our School of Fitness.
Yes, we absolutely love our leg and glute day. The challenge it provides is a huge mountain of fun to climb every single week.
But, did you know that you are not just strengthening your lower body when you are building stronger legs, ass, and hips?. Of course, you do. You know damn well that those leg days are crucial for the health and wellness of your lower back and abs too. And it sure does tax your heart and metabolic functions too. However, let us go upstairs towards our brainy area with this question.
    Here is my question:
Is it true that weighted exercises in the gym for your leg and glutes will increase the production of healthy neural cells? ( which are crucial for the capacity and health of our brain and entire nervous system )

A tale about the enemy of all things living.
    Life in the Anthropocene.

With the rising tide of the Baltic sea far beneath me, I towered the surrounding world.
Looking out from the crest of the Scandinavian coastline. This was still a place lost in time and mist. A mountain entirely dressed in green and trees, moss and berries, sand and soil, and it is, as much a mountainous castle growing ever taller as it is the place where salt and cold black water comes crashing in to embrace the land of the Vikings.

A day which, is by now, our essential every day reality.

May 22 is both a perfectly ordinary Tuesday in your life and the global 'International Day for Biological Diversity'.
But that is not all this week is all about. We also have the endangered wildlife day, which happened on May 18, and birthday number 70 for IUCN. And, as such this entire week represents an opportunity for each of us to make it a healthy fit day for the entire planet and our individual self.

Also, if you are present in the incredibly lush and beautiful high coast area of Scandinavia, Sweden next Tuesday you are more than welcome to join me and my coworker from Scandinavian.Fitness for a sweaty fit workout at the gym, lifting weights and grunting at Friskis, Örnsköldsvik at 0730. Once we are done at the gym, we will head outside for a walk at 0830 and hopefully enjoy beautiful weather together with the pristine nature of Scandinavia.

  • Fitness School, Question 32, Can fitness reduce dementia risk with as much as 90% for a 50 year old female?

    Quality time needed: 5 minutes

    Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Question number 32 in our School of Fitness.
We all know that physical activity and healthy food is just that, life and body improving yum for muscles and mind alike.
Some might claim they hate it, and others truly love keeping fit and healthy, enriching their daily life in endless supply.
And you know it greatly reduces the risk of getting a long range of cancer forms, it helps arthritis patients, lower back pain, keeps you lean and hearty healthy.
It fights off bad sleep and osteoporosis. Slow the roll of biological aging and on and on, and all this is proven over and over by science.
And so, my simple question this time around is as follows:
Do you also know if healthy fit women in their 50s have been shown to greatly reduce the risk of getting dementia compared to less fit women?.

  • A life of health & fitness. Life is a wondrous journey and this is a rough view of this years fitness journey ( the way I do it ).

    Quality time needed: 14 minutes

Complete the circle of health & fitness.
    Every single day.
Fitness, Food & Health is nothing but the science of a healthy, fun life :).

The following is a rudimentary overview of my health & fitness life from Jan 1, 2018, to Jan 1, 2019. Some fitness folks think the world of planning ahead, and some absolutely do need a firm plan for the months and even year ahead.
Short term goals firmly lined up and long-term goal posts holding their own further out make a world of difference for some. And your own goals can be about certain PB´s, they can involve reaching a certain body fat % or strength goal. Other common goals have to do with cardiovascular performance and might be focused on improving your lactate levels, running speed, zone levels or maximum heart rate. And for competitive pro athletes, those goals usually involve specific competitions and championships.

So yes, setting up a rough schedule in advance of your fitness year can make a lot of sense.
Just as how a lot of people count daily steps and calories.

  • Fitness School. Question 30, Let us talk about biological aging and our T cells and that beautiful little Thymus.

    Quality time needed: 6 minutes

    Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Question number 30 in our School of Fitness.
You all know that I have been a vocal proponent of how we do not simply grow old like some archaic fairy tale myth where people are doomed to live fat and unhealthy and frail once they leave their 20´s behind them.
No instead, my science-backed message has for years been that we simply create and manage our own aging process according to our own choices in food, life, and fitness.
Be it lean muscle mass, body fat, bone health, even our brain and plenty of natural hormones. Our daily choices carry such incredible weight when it comes down to all these aspects of our own wellbeing and health, much more so than the number of years we have lived or the genes we inherit. And Science proves me right on all these things, over and over, and over again.

But, how about our immune system? In sedentary people, our thymus slowly becomes less capable as we mature beyond our 20´s. That is a simple fact.
And so, my question for you:
Will regular fitness stomp aging in the face or is the thymus and the stuff it does for us destined to go wry as we age no matter our fitness and food choices?.

  • Fitness School, Do you know the right answer?. Question 29, How prevalent is plastic litter amongst deep sea fish.

    Quality time needed: 6 minutes

    Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Question number 29 in our School of Fitness.
We have previously talked about getting enough natural amounts of omega 3 in our food. So let us cast our net a bit wider and deeper as we go hunting for natural Omega 3 sources in the deep sea.
Yes, we are what we eat kiddos.
And so, the time has come to talk about one of the better Omega 3 sources out there, which is fish ( like cows, fish love munching away on plant-based food such as Algae and so they end up with a ton of Omega 3, and so can you. ), and outside of Omega 3 fish also used to be a sustainable source of proteins and omega 3 amongst other things.
The key word is used to be. But like us, and the cows, fish are what they eat.
And today, outside of depleted fish stocks, fish swim in bodies of waters, polluted, and depleted of oxygen and ruined by us, the human species. And as health & fitness loving professionals and human beings, we always have to consider the world we live in, because we are all what we eat and the way we live becomes the state of our body & mind, life, and health. And if the fish you eat is full of toxins, plastic, and other unhealthy things, that is what you too will consume and thus, become.
    So, here is my question:
How prevalent is plastic pollution in deep sea fish right now?.

  • Fitness School, Do you know the right answer?. Question 28, Let us get healthy and dirty with Omega 3 and milk.

    Quality time needed: 6 minutes

    Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Question number 28 in our School of Fitness.
As far as health & fitness goes, eating healthy food on a daily basis is the ever-present and perfectly fitted glove that wraps the fit hand that is regular and challenging workouts in the gym.
And one of those nutritious, and essential for our health, nutrient staples are Omega 3´s. We get it in all sorts of seafood. And we can get it from omega 3 fortified foods such as eggs.
Another wonderful omega 3 source are plant-based foods such as chia seeds. But, meat and dairy products from grass-fed cattle can also contain natural amounts of omega 3.
    So, here is my question:
How much Omega 3 do you actually get from one L ( 1L ) of milk produced from grass fed cattle?.

  • Fitness School, Do you know the right answer?. Question 26, Black coffee, is it a natural diuretic that causes dehydration or a health improving rehydrating drink?

Question number 26 in our School of Fitness.
Black coffee, the mere words are capable of sending hundreds of millions of people into a state of Nirvana filled with transcending bliss and harmony :).
But black coffee is also a cup of rejuvenating health for our entire system. It calms the mind with its slowly rising aroma, helps us keep cancer and diabetes at bay, harnesses our creative focus like an arrow in flight, and in enough quantities, it can even boost peoples gym going efforts.
But is there all there is to it?. Well, here is my question:
Is the old saying true that your daily coffee drives so much fluid out of your body that you need to supplement your coffee intake with equal measures water too in order to stay hydrated?.

  • Fitness School, Do you know the right answer?. Question 24, Can Maintained Fitness prevent the negative health impact of chemotherapy?.

    Quality time needed: 4 minutes

    Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Question number 24 in our School of Fitness.
Chemotherapy is one of those crucial things that no one ever hoped to one day experience. But when the going gets real tough in life, its a life saver.
However, undergoing Chemotherapy is no walk in the park and while it can save your life and defeat cancer, it will also take its toll on your body. So much so that a recent study from Australia revealed that just 13 weeks of chemotherapy caused the heart to age by an equivalent of six years.
    Here is my question:
Can maintained fitness exercise during chemotherapy prevent the now established cardiovascular aging associated with chemotherapy?.

  • Fitness School, Do you know the right answer?. Question 22, is there any difference at all in recovery capacity after a hard leg workout in the gym depending on your biological age?.

    Quality time needed: 9 minutes

    Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Question number 22 in our School of Fitness.
2017 came and went in a glorious display of Northern lights. But now that we are all one year older. Let us take a look at that age-old saying that we recover worse and slower after a hard workout in the gym as we grow beyond our 30´s.
Is there any truth to this at all? Or is this just one more thing that people got wrong in the name of lacking insight, age-related fears, and youth-obsessed peer pressure?.
    To put it simply.
Will the 22-year-old you recover better after a kick-ass weight lifting workout in the gym doing intense deadlifts than the 50 year old you will be able to do, or can you safely go at it just as hard knowing that you will recover and improve just as good?.

So, perhaps, fish and chips and beer just isnt the best of national food obsessions.
Another important highlight that bounces right back at you is how obesity in the UK has increased by 92% since the 1990s ( it´s been increasing in every nation btw, but good ol England is leading the pack ).

And since we also know by now that obesity & overweight is not just about a individual increase in body fat %, which would have been perfectly fine and all down to personal preferences in body composition and aesthetics, but instead is directly tied to a huge increase in several health issues, such as diabetes & cancer and severely decreased quality of life and longevity.

That number increases to 94% of all tap water in the USA which contains 4.8 plastic litter fibers per 500ml of water. And worldwide 83% of all tap water contains plastic litter.
But the issue of plastic contamination in our water is not just about tap water, nor is it, as we have previously talked about, only a concern with sea food. This is a growing man-made health issue which has been going on for a very long time and by now it is part of every aspect of society and our natural world.

Instead what we have is a beautifully defined field of known and still developing, yet for now, unknown for you and me facts and variables, and the vast amount of personal choices those known, but evolving facts allows us to make.

And at every step of that personal journey, chess and fitness will leave you standing as the sole commander, at a vast field made up of pure facts and deductive knowledge and the cause and consequences that every single choice will give birth to.

  • Health & Fitness: The unhealthy reality of the MMA style weight cut. A BBC documentary.

The Unhealthy Practice of MMA weight cutting
The Science of a Healthy Life

For most people getting a bit more fit, and healthy by eating cleaner food and less calories and working out more is a great life improving choice.
And for most, that will lead to health improving reductions in unhealthy body fat levels and body weight. But as we previously talked about in another article, when you are already in shape, rocking a fit and toned body, eating healthy amounts of healthy food, doing weights and cardio, there comes a limit where dropping even more in body weight and body fat becomes damaging and unhealthy instead of health and fitness improving.

And beyond that basic reality, you have the insanity of MMA and Boxing weight cuts that far to many pro fighters go through just so they can fight in a weight class that they are to athletic and big to actually be fighting in.
I am saying that because MMA style weight cutting is not something that anyone interested in health and fitness should ever do.
    Period.

Neither should pro fighters in my own opinion. In a ideal world you would be the only one doing MMA style weight cuts, allowing you to fight people 20 to 30 lbs smaller than you, with much shorter leg and arm reach, 20+lbs less muscle mass and all the disadvantage that would give them in strength, endurance, strike impact and absorption.
But you see, when every other fighter do the same weight cut, no one benefits, and everybody suffers from the exact same detrimental and unhealthy exhaustion that MMA style weight cuts are. With less fitness come fight night and potentially worse health for the long haul as the only real result.

Dairy for the fit and healthy guidelines
The Science of a Healthy Life

Time and science continually march forward, and that is a thing of utmost beauty. But that simple fact also requires all of us to keep an open mind towards the way we do our own fit and healthy life so that we can continually adapt and improve as we uncover new layers of scientifically established health and fitness knowledge, and at times, accept that new health and fitness science-based knowledge might force us to change direction and toss out old established "truths".

So today we find ourselves in a brave new world where a comprehensive Swedish study covering the health impact of daily dairy and fruit consumption ended up giving us so much new scientifically based knowledge about our health and food choices that the time has come to update our "dairy for the fit and healthy guidelines".

Organic and sugar-free yogurt is still with us, while milk is completely tossed to the side, yes even lactose-free milk gets the boot out my door.
    Why you might ask?
Well, the answer is simply put science baby, adapt or die :).

Milk is as far as we understand it right now causing real health issues over time that simply do not happen when you consume sugar-free yogurt or no dairy at all.
This Swedish study involved close to 200 000 people, and the accumulated data over several years indicates that a high milk consumption shortens individuals life span through increased oxidative stress and inflammation caused by that daily milk consumption.
And as such milk has to go since yogurt provides all the same high-quality nutrition as milk and thus, all the benefits of dairy can be met through organic, sugar-free yogurt without risking the by now, strongly implicated long-term health issues associated with drinking milk.

    Air Pollution and our health
The factual Science of a Healthy Life, updated with WHO data, march 2017

Science continually spits out more reasons in a never ending string as to why anyone interested in their own health and body should also be caring for a sustainable society and world.
As if it is not already bad enough with modern day life´s annoying sidekick, air pollution, causing cancer, asthma and respiratory diseases and crazy smog in a growing number of cities. We can now add dementia to the list of unpleasant and unhealthy effects that life in any unsustainable society will cause through air pollution.

Swedish researchers at Umeå University have uncovered compelling evidence for a direct link between air pollution and dementia. The run down is that if you happen to live in an area that leaves you exposed to air pollution you will run a 40 percent greater risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia compared to if you would have chosen to live in a city with healthier air and environment.

Moments before the snow & Sekkusu shinai shokogun
The Science of a Healthy Life

Sekkusu shinai shokogun Is a Japanese term for the flight away from human intimacy.
But it represents so much more than being a fancy sounding term for the individual flight away from sexual enjoyment and fulfilling love.
What that phrase truly represent is not just physical sex, however, it is a loss of something fundamentally human in society at large.

Not surprisingly almost all humans require enjoying life, love, sex, and relationships in a way that is fulfilling towards their own personal needs, emotions, and desires. And when individual life becomes reduced to being nothing more than a slave to be used and abused by endless corporations. The state, a spouse, or simply someone else's selfish and never ending demands.
Be it monetary, sexual, emotional or otherwise, that person will grow unhappy with such an unbalanced way of life.

Life fulfillment and enjoyment is simply not measured by the size of your paycheck.
Nor can it ever be obtained on an endless one-sided road.
A minority might, of course, find that kind of draining one-way trip a wonderful and fulfilling life that truly makes every cell in their being happy, working away 20 hours per day. Giving time, energy, emotions and life itself to an utterly ungrateful and never ending taker that will never give anything that is even remotely close to being enough in return.

Our Arctic Sunrise, Year 4.5 Billion
    The Living Planet Report

Anthropocene is a word I personally like. You encounter it quite often in the things I write and talk about. It is, in my opinion, a word that is as beautiful as it is powerful, and it is a word that shifts our entire world on its axis. This simple word encapsulates all that has progressed through human history, every single day of our global past and our shifting present day reality. It is our shared, mutual future.
The word Anthropocene goes far beyond geology and hard to understand science. It captures the simple thing that is all our reality, the way humanity has lived and the cause and effect of it all.
It also shows us the globally shared responsibility we all must shoulder. It is a word and a concept that defines the facts of our present day reality.

This single word provides a focused lens that captures the changing reality of human life and planet Earth. There are no obfuscated truths here, no shadows to hide within. Life in the Anthropocene is the simple truth of life on Earth and it is the summary of the catastrophic effect modern day society has already had and continues to have. Not just on this planet, whose planetary bounds we have broken and shattered. But the industrialization of the last 100 years has harmed human life too, not just a few, but all of us.

All the soon to be 10 billion homo sapiens and all the rapidly diminishing animals. We are all this single word.

It communicates the urgency with which we must act and it shows us how the lies and global capitalistic worldview of infinite natural resources and exponential growth that greedy shareholders and owners rejoice at must come to an abrupt end. It tells us these things because we are no longer a small entity on a big and everlasting, infinite planet. We, the human race, are now a cataclysmic devastation on a small planet, where we have reached the saturation point in the last 100 years.

One such truth is roughly 40% of all Giraffes being wiped out from planet Earth in the last 30 years, and no one even noticed it until now.

    TLDR
    Sunshine
    Vitamin D & it´s many health benefits.

We all know that natural sunlight helps our body produce essential Vitamin D.
And today we also know that a small, daily dose of natural sunlight is equally beneficial for our mood and mental well-being, it helps us improve and maintain our bone health all through life. Reduces cancer risk and strengthens our immune system, possibly through the increase in the capacity of T Lymphocytes that daily sunlight exposure has proven to give rise to.

In short, get a small 20 to 60 minutes dose of outdoor daylight, every day, all year round all through life.
It is very much an essential ingredient for lifelong health in body and mind.
So, go ahead and kick the lazy bug in the ass and just get some daily exposure outside in the sun.
20 - 60 minutes per day seems to be what the doctor have ordered.
And that daily sunlight and the Vitamin D and other beneficial responses it gives rise to is a vital and healthy aspect no matter if you are a sedentary and unhealthy person or a kick ass fit and active super food eating beast :). To the surprise of some perhaps, make sure that the daily 20 to 60-minute exposure is free of protective sun-blockers.

    Quality time needed: 6 minutes

    TLDR
Health, Obesity and Genes, the science of healthy living cuts risk with 50% even with 'bad' genes

Middlesbrough currently has the highest level of obese children ranging from 4 to 11 year old in the UK. In total England is estimated to have 198,036 overweight or obese children in that age group. But pointing that out has nothing to do with good looks and physical ideals, it is not about fat shaming, but it has to do with health, however. Adults decide what children eat and how sedentary they are in that age group. At home, and at school.

So be an adult and make healthier choices for all those children's future health. Sedentary living and unhealthy food choices, or simply overeating hurt individual health, and there is no way around that.

    TLDR
Sea level rise @ 2 °C would give 40cm rise on Atlantic coast. 5 °C up to 1.8m.

Two degrees of global warming above our previous pre-industrial level is for the moment considered a level of climate change which we will have to simply live with. It is by now unavoidable in other words since we have already as of October 2016 reached global average temperatures 1.2 degrees Celsius (2.2 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels. Unless the world would go cold turkey today on fossil fuel and pollution, but not even that would keep us below that 2C warming as things are looking today.

This “2 °C” threshold is likely to be reached absolutely no later than 2040.

But a long string of separate science studies last few years showcase something that might be news for you. Wonderful, health inspiring news and body-mind incentive to keep fit and active all through life. Be it from running or lifting weights, or better yet, by doing both.
In short: People between age 50 to 86 diagnosed with 'mild cognitive impairments', commonly called dementia were in some studies tasked with lifting challenging weights a few times per week. The recipe is simple, Rep away on a challenging weight at least twice per week at roughly 80% of your maximum one rep weight. And the conclusion is equally simple, yet beautiful.
The stronger their body became, the stronger, fitter and healthier their brain also ended up being. Or as one lead scientist said in one study: "improvement in cognition function was related to their muscle strength gains".

Add to that our ever growing scientific understanding of life and the universe.

strong antibiotics use still growing on European farms

Short and sweet: Data reveals that while European farmers thankfully are now using a lower total amount of veterinary antimicrobial agents in animals, compared to the previous year, the use of strong and potent antibiotics in some European nations, such as colistin have worryingly continued to increase.

These types of antibiotics, which are classified as critically important in human medicine should due to the health and well-being of people not be used at all in food and farm production. This is due to the natural ability of bacteria to mutate and evolve. So by over using crucial antibiotics on livestock animals instead of simply treating the animals better and saving the medication for critically ill people we are increasingly seeing cases of bacteria, spreading to humans, which are already resistant to even the strongest of current antibiotics.

Excessive Air Pollution, soil degradation, polluted water, unsustainable energy. Unhealthy food production and sedentary living is damaging life and health of almost every human being
The Science of a healthy life

This is a long form article covering our individual and global, planetary health and the way it is all linked together, today and every tomorrow from here until eternity:

WHO, the U.N. health agency revealed September 2016 that 92 percent of the global population now live in areas where human-made air pollution exceeds what WHO consider safe for your health.

All while ever-increasing global temperatures and increasing frequency in weather-related disasters keep making not just daily life but also food production and food security harder for all.
A basic premise and reality which will have to go hand in hand with a growing worldwide population. A population that deserves a healthy and fulfilling life.

But, not only is one in nine deaths worldwide in some way caused by air pollution. Perhaps more importantly, beyond that number, hundreds ( billions actually ) of millions of people are affected in their daily life with various health issues due to human-made pollution and other unhealthy aspects of modern day life of some sort.

So the question should not be 'can we afford to go healthy and sustainable'.

No, instead, the reality already is 'How fast can we go all sustainable and healthy, because we already know that we can not afford to not do it'.

    Excessive Air Pollution
Is hurting almost every human being
The Science of a healthy life

This is a short 10-second news snippet regarding our individual and global health: WHO, the U.N. health agency revealed in a new report published September 2016 that 92 percent of the global population now live in areas where air quality exceeds what WHO consider safe for your health. Southeast Asia, eastern Mediterranean, and the western Pacific regions are the hardest hit but it apply to the entire world.

The worldwide data broken down to national and regional accuracy was produced from new satellite surveillance as well as traditional measurements of pollution, in about 3,000 places across the world.

Not only is one in nine deaths worldwide in some way caused by air pollution, but perhaps more importantly, beyond that number, hundreds of millions of people are affected in their daily life with various health issues due to human-made air pollution. So the question remains, is it not time we all realized the immense health as well as financial toll of not adopting a far more sustainable and healthy way of life in society. People talk about the cost of going green and clean, but it is quite obvious the other way around.

Instead, the fit and healthy, young and happy feeling definition that people so eagerly, and so mistakenly wrong have persisted in pushing on to each other as a young person's realm since the dawn of mankind will only keep on moving up, up and up as we continually increase our healthy lifespan by making healthier choices.

There are absolutely real things in life and health, our body and mind that change as we mature and grow no matter what we do. But the saying that 55 is the new 20 is absolutely true and soon it will be 69.

The evening sky and rolling landscape change their hue under the traversing basking light, and in the water, a rainbow of countless shades paints an illuminating backdrop to our goodbye and good night to the day that was.

This unfolds while somewhere else in our sheltered home.

Farming 2.0 is high tech, healthy, animal friendly & sustainable
The Science of a healthy life

Some might think that organic farming is a tired old buzzword from past times that promises to ruin the life of farmers and cheat customers of their money. And yes, organic farming is harder to do for the farmer, costs money initially to adapt to, and often times our broken food industry make the up front cost for the customer at checkout higher as well. But, Farming 2.0 is a step forward, making use of high tech, automation and the very latest science to make farming more ecological and efficient, while making the end product healthier to eat for the end customer. And is that not the future?

    A better one that is.

Farming 2.0 is friendlier towards the animals, the planet, the customer, and the farmers. Helping us all increase the amount of healthy food being produced, while we lower the resource drain, pollution and adverse health effects of "fossil fuel" farming. In the end costing society, this planet, and you and me far less than the real cost of the unsustainable,. low quality crap that "fossil fuel" farming produce.

Red Meat is making you age prematurely
The Science of a healthy life

I could have added a ? to that headline since it is not yet 100% verified that eating all forms of red meat on top of other negative health effects also speeds up our biological aging process. Then again, I am choosing not to do that since I am of the opinion that there is so much ample scientific evidence by now that people that care about their own and others health do need to cut back on the amount of red meat they eat. Be it cancer, obesity, vascular aging, mortality chance in general, diabetes or a destructively rapid aging process, red meat just isnt a great day to day food choice if health is a concern/interest.

    Efficient & sustainable indoor farming
The Science of a healthy life

Indoor, tech-driven farming is not a new interest here at 'a Norse View', nor is it tied down to families growing their own little strawberry produce indoors. No, the big disruptive, and highly positive change for society comes with companies such as 'Farmed here' and Japanese 'Spread'. Disruptive, and positive, because it will increase all year round yields while doing so in a far less resource hungry way. A sustainable approach which also happens to be more healthy for us. This news share is about Spread going robotic with it´s already super efficient indoor farm, a change which will allow Spread to reach an impressive 30 000 lettuce head harvest production - every single day, all year round. While in turn Farmed here keep inching closer by the day toward it´s goal of feeding 75% of the American population with just 18 vertical farms.

No horns or fumes blurring out it´s arrival, and thankfully, neither was there a stressed out and agitated driver inside, eager for their passengers to get onboard. It was just a car, accompanied by the silence of the electrical engine and the fluttering song of the birds high up in the lush crown of trees that surrounded us. It was a beautiful Sunday and we had just finished up a wonderful, romantic picnic. I kissed your lips and thanked you for an amazing day out here in the countryside, 'See you tomorrow'. The car doors opened as it picked up on the phone used to order it here coming in close enough proximity and I sat down next to the other three passengers the car had already picked up.

But, just what makes this combo tick, and what is actually what. How does it affect your health and everyday life. Yes, plenty of questions have evaded us for quite some time, and so, to find out the answer, we signed a contract with the previous couple to face off inside the octagon to determine who is actually top dog and what they do to our bodies.

    Earth Hour
is the one global hour that is all about our daily life long perpetual choices

Each year, a fairly big, but still too small, part of humanity comes together for the WWF manifestation called "Earth Hour". Raising much-needed awareness and action on life on Earth and the need for a healthier and more sustainable way to do said life down here on this planet, not just for me and you, but for all of us.
This gladly happens every year and usually garners a growing amount of traction and mindshare.

And while its name is more than a little catchy, it is of course not about one hour or even one day in your life. "Earth Hour" is about our mutual and life long, perpetual daily lifestyle choices as individuals and the one mixed and spiced up, blended species of Hominoidea that we all belong too.

  • A healthy life in body and mind, what is the biological change of going from 30 to 80+ years of age and how will fitness affect it. The sweet and simple facts and science of age related decline.

    Quality time needed: 3 minutes

Fit and active vs sedentary living and age related decline.
    The Science of healthy living.

When it comes down to the impact of aging your fears are more likely than trying to impose their will on you that you will grow fat and tired, ugly and unhealthy while losing huge amounts of lean muscle mass and capacity in body and mind, no matter what you do.
    Right?.
Science will, however, say, 'listen, man, that is simply not true'.

A healthy man ( or woman ) that is living a sedentary life ( not being physically active enough on a daily basis by doing challenging cardio and lifting weights week in and week out ) will indeed lose about 30% of his or her lean muscle mass going from a biological age of 30 to 80.
And the decline in cardio levels will be even higher and much more rapid. And on top of that, we can add the very real cognitive decline that comes with both the natural age-related decline and the huge impact of sedentary living, as well as the huge increase in cancer and cardiovascular health issues that predominately sedentary lives give rise to.
But hold your horses and spend some time taking in what I just said.
Not my choice of words, but the scientific reality behind my writing.

The science of health and fitness should always be your lifelong guide.

Fitness is as wonderful for your health as it is for landing you a more sculpted and capable body over time.
But that will never change that even fit people (quite a lot of them) are doing the right things for the wrong reasons. Case in point the fit and good looking girl you can see in the IG video I am linking to, she obviously trains hard and regular while being in great shape, and she does know quite a few things about the body and the science of staying healthy and fit.
Which is wonderful on all counts.
But like so many other gym goers she is seemingly misinformed about a few things too ( on the other hand, so are we all :P ). Allowing wrongful information and knowledge to shape her choices and the choices of other people that gulps up everything we fit people believe to be true. However, if you are willing to listen to it the beautiful science of health and fitness will guide you towards a better body and better health and better workouts if you pay attention to real fitness science instead of personal opinions. You see, there is nothing wrong with the exercises she is doing. But outside of the wonderful world of human anatomy, there is no such thing as an upper or lower butt muscle as far as your exterior appearance goes, nor is there a meaningful difference as far as your practical fitness capacity and workout goes.

Click through and let us talk about Gluteus Maximus, Medius and Minimus.

  • Fitness facts: How and why does the range of motion in any given strength exercise matter?.

    Quality time needed: 8 minutes

Diving down into a range of motion and squat study.

The science of health and fitness should always be your gym guide.

Right now, if you enter any given gym, the wonderful world of barbells will conjure up as many opinions as there are fitness girls on Instagram, no matter the subject.
And plenty of opinions are exactly that, personal opinions, formed by peer pressure in the gym, on social media, or by fit vixens looking to make a bigger following by posting daily stuff which may or may not be factually correct.

There are out of date school gym coaches still living in the past, badly informed parents, friends, big brothers, big sisters, commercial interests only looking out for the next conference call, as well as uninformed writers working for big tabloids which just happened to draw the assignment to make a puff piece on fitness.

So let us instead look at science and what it actually has to teach us about the range of motion for any particular exercise. And for the purpose of this article, let us focus on a Squat centric use case since legs and ass are thankfully all the rage anyway :).

Fast forward just a little bit and I could start to see the movement in the thin youngling trees and the tall flowers. Something was out there, touching here and there making the wild plants and florals sway as it drew nearer me.

  • The savagery that is the carnivore dietary plan vs the science of health and fitness.

    Quality time needed: 15 minutes

Around the world, the vaquitas are sadly not alone, there are countless of animal species, plants and all that´s facing the threat of extinction in ever greater numbers. And the pace is accelerating, so it´s not business as usual.

It got nothing to do with prey and predatory fluctuations. And it got nothing to do with natural events and Earths naturally changing cycles.

People & Planet is just a mutual ecosystem.

  • Fitness School, Question 35, Let us dig deep down into 'standing barbell row' and the complete amount of muscles it will engage and activate.

    Quality time needed: 3 minutes

    Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Question number 35 in our School of Fitness.
Once we venture beyond the glorious realms of leg and glutes training, there is the never-ending hallway of kicking and boxing to explore and conquer.
But what else lies beyond the joy of those fit & healthy cornerstones?.
Well, if it was not obvious so far in life, martial arts and legs and glutes have their equal in the colossus that is weighted back training.
And when it comes down to weighted back training, actually, when it comes down to working the upper body at all, there is one exercise which I will never hesitate to put front and center (together with deadlift), and that is 'Standing Barbell Row'.
    Here is my question:
Standing Barbell Row will challenge and work you from top to toe.
But can you list all of the muscles which you will activate when you do this bad boy in a properly challenging way?.

  • Fitness School, Question 34, Is there a connection between weighted leg and glute training and your brain maintaining a healthy neurological cell production?

    Quality time needed: 4 minutes

    Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Looking out from the crest of the Scandinavian coastline. This was still a place lost in time and mist. • May 22 mark the crucial 'day of biological diversity'. But it is also so much more than that, #Connect2Earth.

    Quality time needed: 9 minutes

At the crossroads of the Anthropocene.
May 22 is 'The International Day of Biological Diversity'.

    Quality time needed: 4 minutes

    Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Question number 33 in our School of Fitness.
Legs and ass and back. That is the holy trinity ( together with the fourth pillar, our abs ) of building a strong and capable and athletic body.
But what about the makeup of our upper legs?
We have the backside of our legs, which we call the hamstrings, and on the front, there´s the thing most people simply call the quads.
But let us dig deeper down into those mighty looking quadriceps and the rest of the anterior side of our legs.
    Here is my question:
Can you specify which muscles make up the bulk of what we call our quadriceps and anterior leg muscles?.

  • We are standing at the crossroads of the Anthropocene. Earth hour and the essential stuff that lies beyond.

    Quality time needed: 5 minutes

At the crossroads of the Anthropocene.
    Earth Hour.
Is by now, our essential every day reality.

On one hand, we are now living in the day and age of butterflies and endangered white rhinos hopefully being multiplied and preserved through soon to be commercial cloning facilities. finally making sure we will never have to lose another species to extinction.
Putting an end to the way we lost the last surviving male Great Northern Rhino just the other day.

And that lingering, hopeful road is walking hand in hand with this growing worldwide awareness that eating healthy, and being healthy is not just good for that one person, but transformative and good for everybody else too.

  • Fitness School, Do you know the right answer?. Question 31, What´s up with that biceps, give us the lowdown.

    Quality time needed: 4 minutes

    Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Question number 31 in our School of Fitness.
When we are talking and thinking about muscles and keeping fit, Biceps is not just one of the more iconic names in the world of fitness and the human anatomy, it is also a very visible muscle that truly pops on people that keep healthy fit. But where on your body can you actually locate your biceps muscle and more importantly is the name biceps only referring to one muscle or do we have more than one biceps on our body?
And so, my question for you is as follows:
Can you tell us if the human anatomy have one or more muscles with the name biceps, and where are they/it located?.

    Quality time needed: 7 minutes

    Fitness School
Do you know the right answer?.

Question number 27 in our School of Fitness.
From a healthy fit perspective, both short & long term, what we need to sculpt is a life of daily physical activity in the right amount and the right intensity coupled with healthy food choices and the proper amount of nutrients.
And those healthy choices include making sure that we get enough of those healthy nutrients in order to perform, in the gym and daily life, and we need enough of them in order for our body and mind to stay healthy, happy, capable and fit.
Eat too little protein and you will start losing lean muscle mass, and your health will start to decline too since proteins are not just the major building blocks of our muscles, they are in fact the mud and water, wood and concrete that builds our entire body, be it your internal organs, your skin, hair, muscles, cells, or our brain.
And the total amount of daily calories we consume is, of course, pretty much the same thing, eat too little in total, and you will start noticing how your health and fitness level slowly deteriorate. And if you do the opposite and stuff your tummy full with too many daily calories you will start gaining pure body fat in excessive amounts and it will continue to build unless you change your daily choices.
    So, here is my question:
How big do you need to make your daily calorie deficit in order to lose 250g of body fat per week ( roughly ) while eating enough protein to preserve your lean muscle mass?.

But is there all there is to it?. Well, here is my question:
Is the old saying true that your daily coffee drives so much fluid out of your body that you need to supplement your coffee intake with equal measures water too in order to stay hydrated?.
