Adults with diabetes quadruple since 1980
The Science of a healthy life
WHO recently came out with a simple report that highlights how worldwide diabetes have quadrupled between 1980 and 2016. Sadly, zero people are surprised, or should at least not be surprised, since the increasing prevalence of diabetes ties directly in with the rise of over eating on shitty and healthy food and sitting still far too much.
A change that continues to walk hand in hand with the rise of obesity.

In 1980 planet Earth had 108 million people dealing with diabetes. In 2014 we had allowed that number to rise worldwide to 422 million due in part to adopting shitty food being produced at the expense of healthy food being both affordable and available. The other part is down to us as a whole adopting a far more sedentary lifestyle with each passing year.

No, you and I might not promote being physically inactive 7 days a week, nor do we support shitty food producers, but humanity as a whole is by choice the culprit behind the rise in obesity and diabetes as much as we are responsible for the global climate change.
If you are now shrugging your shoulders thinking that plenty of people seems to be able to live perfectly fine lives with diabetes, and or obesity, big deal. Yes, hundreds of millions of people do manage quite well. But physical inactivity and or in combination with low-quality food and excessive amounts of calories do take its daily toll on the health and body of anyone indulging in that combination.
Diabetes is like obesity, a silent killer, in 2012 diabetes caused 1.5 million direct deaths and an additional indirect 2.2 million deaths. Western Pacific region and the southeast Asian region are the worst hit regions, but there isn't a single region not affected, Europe, for instance, had 64 million cases of diabetes in 2014.
Beyond agreeing with me that we are talking about a preventable issue that almost solely comes down to people needing to eat healthier and less while getting more daily physical activity, WHO, also highlights the financial toll diabetes takes on the world, citing an annual global cost of diabetes, including health care needs, that exceeds € 728 billion euros. A cost that could rise to $1.7 trillion by 2030 if we continue as usual.
Well, what can I say, it is certainly long overdue with both sugar tax on unhealthy products such as Starbucks 'Hot mulled fruit' which contains 25 teaspoons of sugar per serving, talk about selling diabetes in a cup!, as well as a global push for making sustainable and healthy food production and purchase a far better financial alternative for people - worldwide. And schools, well schools and workplaces alike need to get serious about keeping their pupils and employees physically engaged, and to do so on a daily basis.
